A family matter...

I am doing this post for Lala.

I saw the photo above for the first time this week. It is my great-grandmother on my father's side. I think I look a little like her. Her name was Florence Jenkins Sagges. She was born in 1874 and her parents were John C. Jenkins and Jane C. Jenkins. My great-great grandparents have names now.

Florence was born in West Virginia. I love her already. My cousin Peggy sent me this information. There is lots more too but this is the part that jumped out at me. What about that? Exciting. We both seem to like scarves around our necks too. I wear them often because I am always cold. I wonder if she was too. Our faces are shaped the same I think. Both round. Now I know I am (sort of? ha ha ha) large but my face was always round. Little Lala has a round face too.

I wish I had some time with her to talk. Even a few minutes. I really do. Florence, what a lovely name.

Her husband (my great-grandfather) was Emanuel Sagges who became a US citizen sometime after 1900, and came from Salerno Italy. They had seven children, my grandmother being the oldest, Jennie Beatrice Sagges born June 19, 1896.

Jennie married my grandfather, John Franklin "Frank" Closser (Colosimo) in 1914 in Pennsylvania. He was born in Petrona in Catanzaro, Italy in 1892. I loved this man with all my heart. He let me sit on his lap and drive the tractor!

I realize this is not very interesting to anyone else, sorry. I thought it was important to do though.

Come back for a regular post tomorrow. And have a lovely Tuesday. I know I will. I have canasta and poker and they are starting work on Bubbles!

Italy? So we're part Italian?

So apparently wearing scarves is hereditary! I'd better start picking some out...

We have lovely round faces! :]]

This is very interesting! Are there any more photos?

And I have realized that I have no pictures of Nanny... Do you have any digital ones you could send me? Pictures of her young or old, both would be wonderful.

LY!

I enjoyed reading about your family history and the "round" faces. In many family, the history is getting lost.

Lovely story, Bee. Family history is SO important to record and pass on. Bless Lala for appreciating it. I have Family Tree Works and I have tons of info on all FOUR of our lines, but still want more. Our roots are important. Keep it up! Big hugs, honey...

That is awesome to have that information. Isn't it funny how with certain traits you come by them genetically?

Nothing wrong with recording history... I think it's great!

Being Italian has its perks, welcome to the family! (Said in a very Godfatherly movielike tone!!)

Course the only thing about me that was ever italian was my maiden name. Hahaha.

Are you kidding Bee. This was a very interesting blog this morning. I enjoy hearing and seeing about the history of peoples familys. It shows you where and how they came from. Please do more my friend because I'd like to find out more about where you came from, your family and just about everything. History was one thing I really enjoyed teaching more in school Enjoy your day Bee.

This is a wonderful post Empress Bee. You are talking about where you came from. That's interesting to those of us who love you. I happen to be one of those folks. Just saying.

Have a terrific day. Big hug to you and Sarge. :)

Bee this is a wonderful post - I love reading about people's ancesters. MWM has been working on the family tree for an age now and we have found out so many interesting things - it's fascinating!

When I first glimpsed the photo I thought - that's a relative of Bee's - there is definitely a family likeness. You have Italian blood running through your veins eh? My ancesters were Irish. :)

Looks like you have a quite some Italian blood in you. Hubby's grandma's name is Florence as well. She's part German, part Scottish :o) Grandpa is Czech. Yup! I went all the way to US to meet and marry half a Czech boy ;o)

Love the post. I am 50% Italian! My grandmother was the only one of her siblings born in America. She lived with never sister and they spoke Italian when they didn't want you to know what they were talking about. Needless to say, I use to be good at understanding Italian.

We have relatives with a huge family tree made with felt. There is also a book. There are BIG "D"'s and little "d"'s. One represents death the other divorce. It is a great way to track family history.

Keep the stories coming! :)

How wonderful that you know your family's history. I don't know much about mine past my parents.

Scarves are wonderful. I've colllected them for the past 25 years. I found many scarves at the thrift store --silk! Each one takes me back to a different time in my life. Oh shoot...now I'm thinking of hubby and I'm getting sad. He gave me many of them!
